An indispensable part of today’s life is a credit card. The funny thing is how you lose some of the services you took for granted when you destroy your American Express card like I did. I found I couldn’t join my local gym, order clothes over the internet or even reserve a plane ticket to New York, online, the basic stuff of life. It wasn’t that long ago when cash spoke volumes, but not anymore.
We never stop to ask ourselves when using our American Express credit card globally whether or not we need or can afford what we are buying it has become so commonplace. Using your American Express credit card may be convenient but there is a cost for the convenience of paying at a later date. Unfortunately, credit card debts are mounting in many places around the world. Today, credit card debt is one of the biggest worries facing us in America.
It is for this reason I cancelled my American Express credit card. I found it too easy using my card and spending money that wasn’t mine to spend. Mounting debts lead me to realize that I had been using my card for everything and anything including food! When the debt became so great that I couldn’t possibly pay it, I began to panic.
Repaying my debt wasn’t easy and it took the help of a debt refinancing service to put me back on track. To say the situation had become a nightmare would be a gross understatement. Now, I have gotten my debt paid off and cancelled my American Express credit card. Most of you reading this will probably think it’s not the fault of the credit card but you need to understand something fundamental about human psychology.
You have more control when you see the cash actually coming out of your pocket. It’s easy using a credit card and at the time quite painless. It wasn’t until I had spent all my money I’d realize that I had been spending it like a running tap. It’s difficult getting yourself into a debt problem if you don’t have an American Express credit card to start with.
